Maersk adjust Emergency Contingency Surcharge

2026-03-14 09:42

Maersk has announced adjustments to its Emergency Contingency Surcharge (ECS) for cargo shipments from the Middle East Gulf and the Indian Subcontinent to Latin America.

The revision applies to multiple trade lanes serviced by the B1S and X5ML routes, including cargo originating from North West India and Pakistan, South and East India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and the Middle East Gulf, destined for locations along the East and West Coasts of South America, the Caribbean, and Central America.

According to the carrier, the revised ECS rates will take effect from the Price Calculation Date (PCD) of 1 January 2026, reflecting a downward adjustment. Updated ECS details have been published in Maersk’s official surcharge table and are available on the company’s Rate Announcements page.

Maersk emphasized that all surcharge modifications are subject to applicable regulatory approvals and mandatory notice periods. Upon implementation, the updated ECS will be reflected in customer invoices.

The ECS will be applied consistently across all container types. The rates apply uniformly to out-of-gauge (OOG), shipper-owned (SOC), and non-operating reefer (NOR) containers, with 40-foot flat rack, open-top, and NOR units charged at the same rate as 40-foot dry containers.
